We here at Knitting Purls like to support the independent spinner, dyer, and designer as much as possible. As a freelance editor and author and an independent publisher, I know how hard it can be to try and make it as an independent among big-name companies with big bucks.
A few weeks ago, I sat down and tried to think of ways to get the word out about indie spinners and dyers. After doing some research and conducting a survey, the Knitting Purls Indie Sock Yarn Club was born. It will be a vehicle through which knitters can get to know independent fiber artists.
The Knitting Purls Indie Sock Yarn Club will feature yarn only, no patterns, provided by an independent fiber artist. There will be an occasional “extra” added to the package.
Knitting Purls is proud to announce the following artists have agreed to participate in our first edition:
Laura Wilson-Martos of Dizzy Blonde Studios
Jenna Otto of Indie Dyer
Stacy Little of Tempted Yarns
Sandi Sullivan of Twiggi Knits
Ann-Marie MacKay of The Chicks with Sticks
Jessica Ostrow of Weaving Rainbow
You’ll be able to learn more about these fiber artists on the Knitting Purls blog.
Shipments will be sent bimonthly, with the first one going out in January 2009. Each package will contain a minimum of 400 yards of hand-dyed sock yarn.
Our marketing research indicated that one of the biggest reasons people don’t join sock clubs is the cost. We have kept the costs as low as we can and offer two payment options. Membership in the Knitting Purls Indie Sock Yarn Club is $150.00 for 6 shipments. You have the option of flexible payments of $25.00/month, or the subscription can be paid in full when ordering. Those who choose to pay in full will receive a free bonus shipment. The extra shipment features yarn from Christina Gagnon of Sugarbeestudio.
Only 50 subscribers will be accepted for this premiere edition of the Knitting Purls Indie Sock Yarn Club. Signups begin September 23, 2008. Subscriptions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Subscriptions to the Knitting Purls Indie Sock Yarn Club will also make great holiday gifts for the knitters on your list. We’re happy to offer a bill-to/ship-to option: you get the bill, and the lucky recipient gets the yarn. To subscribe, send an e-mail to Indiesockclub@knittingpurls.com. And if fiber is more your thing, Spinning & Dyeing will have something for you! Stay tuned.
I hope to enter the new sock club!
